The Japanese Garden in Los Angeles is called SuihoEn. It literally means ‘garden of water and fragrance’. It is one of the popular tourist attractions and features on most lists of things to do in Los Angeles. The Japanese Garden is located at 6100 Woodley Ave in Van Nuys, the same site where the Tillman Reclamation Plant is.

About Japanese Garden in Los Angeles

The Japanese Garden is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Last admittance for any day is at 3:15 p.m. Admission for adults is $5, adults aged sixty two and above pay $3 and children aged twelve and younger also pay $3. Admission fees for special events are usually higher and the exact charge varies from one event to another. The garden is closed on Fridays, Saturdays and on all holidays of the City of Los Angeles. If enough people are already at the garden, then admission will be briefly closed till there is viable room for more visitors. The garden is also closed during bad weather.

Reservations must be made well in advance for groups of fifteen visitors or more. There are docent guided walking tours at the Japanese Garden that must be reserved in advance. The tours usually last a little longer than an hour. There are morning tours throughout the year and additional evening tours through the summer months. Ideally, you should call on the day of your visit to ensure the garden is accessible.
